I confess I was really sceptical: this is too easy to turn out good. And it surprised me a lot, a lot, a lot. It came out well cooked but still moist, with that little crust on top. For me, what clearly stands out is the texture; the taste is good, it's nice, but it's not what stands out. And those little pieces, completely unexpected, that crunch in the middle... I loved it. It worked really well for that sweet craving. And the colour is really pretty; you eat with your eyes too.

Tried and approved! The consistency is really good. The taste is top-notch: doesn't get boring, makes you want more. I tried it with honey, there's some ingredient in there that's very pleasant, I just couldn't identify which one. I liked this more than the mug cakes I usually make with egg and milk. The smell during microwaving was intense and I thought it would taste a lot like seeds. But not at all!

I tried it 3 minutes in the microwave and it came out with a cake-like texture. I added dark chocolate on top while it was still warm and it just melts right in. Feels like I'm eating a dessert.

Nutritious, tasty, easy and quick to prepare. The smell may seem intense, but don't be fooled! Very interesting and addictive flavour (in the best way 😊). The simple mug cake is my favourite way to prepare it, but add a square of dark chocolate... Wow, we've got a mega dessert, healthy and nutritious. Highly recommend! 🤩

A Repeat cake, flat and wide like a cookie, in a white bowl, seen from above.View photo
It turned out more like a cookie since I did it in a rather big bowl, which I actually really liked, it matched my “what you see is what you get” both from shape and consistency👍 also with the little chunks that are in the powder / in the cookie, like chocolate chunks in a cookie. From the taste it's good. Very fruity. Some bites were a little more bitter, but not in a bad way. I can imagine it to match really nicely with chocolate, but I haven't tried it yet, I tried the basic version this time. My mom also liked it 😉

Really tasty […] If you’re expecting something super sweet like a treat, this might not be the product for you. I rate it an 8/10. It tastes good […] The only reason I’m not giving it a higher rating is that I’m still working on perfecting the preparation method. Because the last few times, it somehow ended up all over my microwave!

A note from Repeat: Laia did it by eye and... it was too much water! With the recipe’s 60 ml, it comes out just right.

Easy and quick to prepare. A nutritious snack with a pleasant taste and really practical. I do not like beetroot. It tastes slightly of beetroot, but I liked it. Ideal for a sweet tooth without much guilt. It helps to combine it with dark chocolate 👌✨

A snack with a mild flavour, which helps avoid palate fatigue, but still tasty. I made it with almond milk and 2 mins 30 in the microwave and it came out just right. I tried it with greaseproof paper to eat later and it works perfectly. On the recommended serving I didn't feel completely full.

Why Repeat exists

Good enough to repeat.

Training and food have been part of my life for 13 years. And for almost as long, “healthy” snacks have let me down: either they're full of additives and sugar, or they're made of good things and taste of nothing...

I believe a lot of people have never had a good way in to eating well. Maybe it's not that you don't like carrot. Maybe you just don't like boiled carrot. What if the carrot came in a cake?

For a lot of people, Repeat may be just the first step: finding out that, actually, you do like beetroot, carrot, oats. And from there, who knows, adding more fruit and vegetables to the rest of the day.

We don't promise miracles. One meal, on its own, changes nothing; it's the habits you repeat that count. That's why we called it Repeat: it has to be good enough that you want to repeat it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

I don't have a scale or a measuring jug. How do I measure?

A tablespoon will do! A 30 g serving is about 2 heaped tablespoons, like in the photo.

For the water, start with 5 full tablespoons and mix well. Still some dry powder, or is the batter too thick? Add a sixth, a little at a time. You want a creamy batter with all the powder mixed in.

Spoons vary in size, so have a look at the video at the top of the page. It shows the texture you want before it goes in the microwave.

One heaped tablespoon. A serving is about two.

The texture to aim for before microwaving.
My microwave is weaker (or stronger). How long should I set it for?

We go by about 3 minutes at 700-800 W. If you can set the power, start there.

More power, less time; less power, more time. If the middle is still runny, add 30 seconds at a time.

Let it rest for about a minute before you dig in.

I don't have a microwave. Can I make it another way?

Yes! Our favourite alternative is the oven: around 15-20 minutes at 180 °C.

It takes a little longer and comes out denser, more like a brownie. It's a good option for making several servings at once.

Tip: spread the batter on a baking tray, let it cool after baking, then cut it into bite-sized squares.

Can I make two servings at once?

Of course! In the microwave, though, we recommend cooking one at a time for a more even result.

For several servings at once, try the oven option under “I don't have a microwave. Can I make it another way?”.

What mug should I use?

Our tasters have made it in everything from a classic mug to a flat plate, which gave us a rather lovely “pancake”!

Always use a microwave-safe container without metal, and leave room for the batter to rise. The shape of the container and the depth of the batter can change the cooking time, so keep an eye on your first attempts.

Try a few and tell us which one you liked best!

A flatter, wider Repeat cake made on a white plate.
Made on a plate, pancake-style.
It's not sweet enough for me. Can I change that?

Of course! We made it only lightly sweet on purpose: it's easier to add than to take away. And everyone's taste is different.

Like it sweeter? Try mixing in a teaspoon of honey, or letting a square of dark chocolate melt into the warm cake.
